The wait is over. The CEO Magazine’s 2026 Executive of the Year Awards – United States have revealed this year’s outstanding leaders, recognizing executives who are shaping their organizations, industries and communities.
And at the top of the list is one of the United States business community’s leading executives.
Les Hiscoe has been named 2026 CEO of the Year – United States. His recognition reflects a leadership philosophy centered on people, innovation, client relationships and building a business designed to stand the test of time.
As CEO of Shawmut Design and Construction, Hiscoe has championed a people-first culture within a 100 percent employee-owned company, where employees have a direct stake in its success.
He has also driven innovation across the business, expanded it into new markets and sectors, and strengthened its approach to technology, safety and project delivery.
But his impact extends well beyond the organization. From creating pathways into construction for young people and underrepresented businesses to supporting education, mentoring future leaders and championing mental health, Hiscoe has used his position to create opportunities across the industry and wider community.
His approach is underpinned by a clear vision: build an enduring, innovative company where people can thrive and clients receive exceptional outcomes.
Hiscoe is joined by two executives recognized in the top tier of the category.
Stanley C Middleman is the recipient of the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award – United States, recognizing his long-standing commitment to business leadership and the mortgage industry.
For more than three decades, Middleman has built Freedom Mortgage into one of the nation’s largest independent mortgage lenders, helping expand homeownership – particularly among first-time homebuyers, United States veterans and service members. His entrepreneurial leadership, commitment to innovation and philanthropy have made a lasting impact on the mortgage industry and communities across the United States.
The awards also recognize leaders excelling across specific areas of executive leadership.
The Executive of the Year Awards recognize the people behind the strategy, decisions and culture that shape organizations.
This year’s United States recipients demonstrate the many dimensions of executive leadership, from building high-performing teams and creating exceptional customer experiences to driving innovation and making a lasting contribution beyond the boardroom.
