Computer Solutions is a managed IT services and solutions firm based in San Antonio, Texas, serving clients across the state. They offer IT solutions and services including managed IT support, cybersecurity, collaboration, networking, data center and business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
As a State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) vendor, Computer Solutions holds multiple DIR contracts for cybersecurity, managed IT services and software and hardware procurement. DIR contracts allow government agencies to purchase services and products with significant cost savings.
Computer Solutions began as a hardware and software provider for the City of San Antonio in 2009 and transitioned into a full IT services provider over the last few years. Over time, the team at Computer Solutions established themselves as a trusted and reliable partner that collaborates across departments as a true extension of the city’s internal team. Prior to this project, Computer Solutions designed, developed and implemented a 311 call center system and deployed wireless connectivity solutions such as hardened laptops and mobility devices into the vehicles of the San Antonio Police Department and Fire Department, as well as other strategic IT projects.
Because of the longevity of its relationship with the City of San Antonio, Computer Solutions holds deep knowledge of the city’s complex IT infrastructure and unique needs and is committed to their long-term success. One great example of this partnership is the ongoing citywide PC life cycle refresh program.
Computer Solutions implemented a secure and scalable PC life cycle program for the City of San Antonio that streamlined their procurement-to-rollout process, improved compliance and strengthened operational efficiency across departments. The Computer Solutions team recognized that delays or errors on this program could create serious operational and financial strain on the city and lead to significant compliance risks.
Leveraging long-standing relationships and trust built across the City of San Antonio departments, the Computer Solutions team – led by Kenneth Newman (Vice President of Professional Services), Craig Watkins (Account Executive and Principal Solutions Architect), Sherie Felsing (Strategic Project Delivery Leader) and Darren Alleman (Configuration Center Manager) – began detailed workshops to map pain points and responsibilities, creating a complete life cycle plan through procurement, staging, deployment and salvage. Clearly defined roles and organized hand-offs between Computer Solutions and the city’s staff eliminated confusion and reduced delays for upgrades. Once the plan was finalized, Computer Solutions began a department by department roll out and started with a small test to validate a smooth transition.
As a Dell DIR-fulfiller, the Computer Solutions team determined that devices needed to be shipped directly from Dell to Computer Solutions, where their Solutions Architects configured, tested and validated each device before scheduling delivery with a department for an upgrade. From there, legacy equipment was securely wiped and recycled. A custom, centralized tracking dashboard allowed the city’s leaders to have real-time visibility into its inventory and deployment status, closing the loop on the entire device life cycle and ensuring accountability, efficiency and transparency at every stage of the deployment process.
In the first year, Computer Solutions successfully deployed 500 devices across the eight departments. With the success of this initial test, the 2026 program is being planned with a five-fold increase in the number of devices deployed. With a repeatable life cycle framework in place, the City of San Antonio has proactive planning, more predictable budgeting and long-term resilience. By bringing the city up to date on its technology life cycle, Computer Solutions improved compliance and ensured capital investments translated into true operational value.
