Sanjeev Kumar, Chair and Managing Director of Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), says that by providing innovative solutions, building customer trust and delivering expertise in all fields of telecommunication, IT, Civil and Architecture, they have been able to excel as a “prime engineering consultancy company” for the past 40 years.
TCIL was set up in 1978 to provide Indian telecom expertise in all fields to developing countries around the world. TCIL’s core competence is within the fields of “switching, transmission systems, cellular services, rural telecommunication, optical fibre based backbone trans systems, IT and networking solutions, application software, e-governance, 3G networks, WIMAX technology and also civil construction projects.”
TCIL is owned by the Government of India Public Sector Enterprise under the administrative control of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India.
Sanjeev says that when it comes to expansion, innovation and providing best-in-class services, “TCIL has continuously broken the box and has remained a dynamic entity. While essentially encompassing its objective to provide world-class technical expertise”, the organisation has also broadened the extent of its objectives.
A key organisational objective of TCIL is to provide prompt technical expertise to serve its customers every step of the way so that no stone is left unturned and that systems and processes are working effectively and efficiently from end-to-end.
The vision of TCIL is to excel and maintain leadership in providing optimal solutions from service to installation within the telecommunications and information technology service sector globally, and to diversify by providing excellent infrastructure facilities, particularly in the high tech areas.

Sanjeev was appointed the Chair and Managing Director of the organisation in January 2021. His focus is towards “improving productivity, efficiency, reducing time in decision-making and bringing a sense of responsibility within an organisation,” he says.
When it comes to modernising organisational structures and hierarchies in order to focus on optimising towards efficiency and customer satisfaction, he says TCIL has focused its efforts on “empowering executives at various levels to provide them autonomy in making business decisions”.
This allows the organisation to be aligned with the principle of self-leadership, autonomy and self-responsibility. Through this strong foundation, Sanjeev is able to lead the organisation to offer its customers innovative “out-of-the-box solutions”, which build customer trust, loyalty and satisfaction.
While Sanjeev acknowledges that COVID-19 on one hand has been very challenging for most of society, it has also opened a lot of opportunities for TCIL to offer technology-based solutions to help everyday people and businesses within the area of e-education, e-health, e-governance, safety and security.
“I hope each employee is able to continue working to their full potential as a team to achieve TCIL’s vision and mission. The TCIL flag and its reputation depend on them more than anyone else,” he says.

Sanjeev is grateful for the enduring commitment and dedication that his employees have shown when tackling the uncertainty of COVID-19. They were able to sustain a high level of output and service to customers during very difficult and challenging times, ensuring that they were happy and satisfied in their time of need, and Sanjeev is very proud of this.
“I extend my sincere gratitude and thanks to the various government organisations and authorities, our valued customers, suppliers, vendors, investors, bankers and stakeholders for the consistent and resolute cooperation and trust, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic that we have been facing,” he says.

When it comes to addressing issues that arise in various sectors, education is one area that has experienced a major shift. “We have had an instrumental role in announcing e-education infrastructure in various states,” Sanjeev explains. Health care has also opened up opportunities for TCIL.
“Telemedicine or e-healthcare has been a long talked about subject, but the importance of this has been realised after the pandemic in regard to patients in remote areas being able to connect with a specialist doctor in a capital city or major towns.”

When it comes to Sanjeev’s everyday routine, much of his energy goes towards structural human resources changes, business process engineering and delegations of tasks towards staff.
Structural change is inherent within TCIL, and Sanjeev always has his pulse on how employees are experiencing “the forces within” to ensure that the organisation can successfully execute an effective change management strategy that would incentivise their employees to operate efficiently within the new system and structure.
Sanjeev says that “there will always be resistance when it comes to reforms” so it’s important to always take the time to “address employee issues, interact with clients, review project delivery plans, see whether the timelines are being met and review employee performance on a weekly basis”.
By offering innovative solutions to its customers, TCIL is also empowering its various technology partners and startups who are coming up with many of these innovative ideas.
When it comes to their suppliers, Sanjeev says that they are one of the most important pillars of any organisation and places them within the same sphere of importance as employees.

Sanjeev states that unlike its competitors who may have a more narrow scope, TCIL is an integrated end-to-end provider across IT, telecom and civil infrastructure with “unique abilities.”
Sanjeev believes that it is important to have transparent healthy business processes and i it is essential that the organisation is accountable within its decision-making processes when it comes to delivering on the timelines that the organisation commits to in regard to completion of projects.
Sanjeev see’s the organisation as a process driven intelligent system where all departments, partners and units are working together in an autonomous fashion to deliver on the required goals and objectives to ensure its clients needs are met from end-to-end.
