Innovation districts are catalysts for impact

Anchored by a combined US$3 billion investment from the state of Ohio, JobsOhio and anchor partners, Ohio Discovery Corridor comprises three major Innovation Districts in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus. Ohio is investing BIG in talent attraction and enablement.

OSU’s ambitious Carmenton development in the Columbus Innovation District is where healthcare, technology and mobility solutions converge to create cross-disciplinary breakthroughs.

Already home to Honda battery cell research labs, Central Ohio’s first proton therapy treatment, and gene therapy developer Andelyn Biosciences, Carmenton will expand to also include green spaces, residential areas, restaurants and entertainment venues, fostering an environment where work, leisure and collaboration interact seamlessly.

The Innovation District aims to generate 20,000 new jobs and fuel US$3 billion in economic impact for Columbus and Ohio over the next decade. Half of these jobs will be direct science, technology, engineering and mathematics positions in technology and healthcare, with the remainder boosting the broader community.

When Intel chose Ohio as home for its US$28 billion investment in leading-edge semiconductor fabrication facilities, it reflected the strength of the state’s universities, community colleges, and other higher education institutions and their ability to provide robust, talented workforce pipelines.

The Intel Semiconductor Education and Research Program exemplifies this synergy. It involves more than 80 institutions of higher education across Ohio, with OSU leading two critical initiatives: The Center for Advanced Semiconductor Fabrication Research and Education and the Ohio Partnership for a Diverse and Inclusive Semiconductor Ecosystem and Workforce.
