Flotek Industries is a technology-driven organization focused on sustainable, green chemistry technologies, data analytics and real-time measurement services that are primarily implemented in the oil and gas sector.
While every source of energy has some type of environmental impact, we are here to help minimize that impact. For 20 years, Flotek has specialized in performance-enhancing green chemistry technologies, built upon non-toxic, plant-based solvents that are cost-effective and safer for the environment, its employees and the community.
We continuously advance fluids and well performance by combining chemistry and modern testing procedures with increasingly sophisticated data from the field, leveraging real-time data, measurements, AI and microfluidics to drive innovation.
In well completion, the ideal fluid will vary from application to application. We look at everything from friction reducers to shale, scale and corrosion inhibitors to find compatible fluids combinations that should minimize formation damage and ultimately enhance well performance.
We focus on understanding interactions between fluids, hydrocarbon and water in the much smaller pockets of reservoir around the main fracture. These pockets account for most of a well’s production past the first month.
Flotek has successfully completed over 20,000 wells in North America, leveraging its proprietary natural chemistry to enhance hydrocarbon mobility. This innovative approach has consistently yielded strong results across multiple basins in the United States, with a notable 25 percent uplift in production within the first 24 months, as proven in the Midland Basin.
Such performance significantly boosts operators’ return on investment, consistently demonstrating time and again the effectiveness of Flotek’s solutions in the industry.
Over time, completion optimization efforts will benefit from a more detailed and frequent feedback after the well enters production. Getting that data is possible with the monitors developed by Flotek’s data analytics division JP3, which analyze hydrocarbon, inert gas and diatomic gas streams by utilizing near infrared and Raman spectroscopy techniques.
These techniques have accuracy mirroring that of gas chromatography but can be performed every few minutes in the field, allowing on demand, real-time measurements. The analyzers have several immediate applications.
In July 2024, the JP3 technology was approved by the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States to monitor methane flare emissions where the VeraCal optical system is used for ongoing calibration verification and for net heating value measurements.
JP3 analyzers are also installed on more than 20 frac fleets to track field gas’ British thermal unit. If the gas gets too rich and it is no longer safe to use in engines or turbines, field gas can be blended with compressed natural gas, or temporarily switch to pure compressed natural gas, to prevent fires and damage to turbines or other equipment.
Flotek Industries supports drilling and completion activities internationally and supported the NESR Group in large projects in the Middle East, to develop and optimize fluid chemistry for unconventional oil and gas operations.
Product development and technical qualifications can sometime extend over months and years, and this is where the development of these partnerships is instrumental in securing success and optimizing performance.
